President Ho Chi Minh visited Calcutta thrice.First in 1911, then in 1946,and finally in 1958 on state visit to India as the President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. His humility, simplicity and sociability left a deep impression on the hearts and minds of the people.During his civic reception at Calcutta Municipal Corporation, when he was told that Rananmitra Sen,one of the students who had injured in the police firing on January 21,1947 – while demonstrating in support of the liberation war of Vietnam – was present in the audience, President Ho went over to embrace him, setting aside all protocols and formalities.
