India Torture,Rape & Deaths In Custody -Amnesty International

Torture is routine in every one of India’s 25 states.Every day in police cells and military barracks throughout the land pain and indignity are deliberately inflicted by paid agents of the state. On men,women and even children. They are beaten senseless, given electric shocks or have their limbs crushed by heavy rollers. Sexual torture, including
rape, is common.Hundreds of victims, perhaps thousands, have died in the past decade.In this report Amnesty International documents the cases of over 400 deaths in custody since 1985,
and they are only a sample. The report calls on the government to acknowledge the terrible reality of the violations and to take urgent steps to stop them.
